Keeping Your Pet “Mainland Prepared” Can Help Avoid the Cost and Stress of Quarantine
If you’re considering mainland travel with your pet and plan to bring her back to Hawaii, you can have her prepared-in-advance for “airport release” and avoid the costly and (stressful) experience of Quarantine. This does require planning ahead, and there are several steps, but it’s actually not a complicated process and costs very little — certainly much less than a Quarantine stay.
We keep our pets Mainland prepared at all times by keep their Rabies vaccines current (one every 3 years) and getting an annual Titer test. For full details on the State’s requirements, check out the Hawaii Department of Agriculture website where they post Quarantine requirements. These requirements change from time to time, so it’s a good idea to check back with them from time to time. Click here for requirements posted in Oct. 2009.
