Animal Disaster Preparedness in Hawaii

Posted · Add Comment

It’s National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day and Ready.gov has a bunch of good information to help you and your best buddy stay safe.

Here are a few basic guidelines to get you started:

  • Be prepared. Make a plan and go over it with your family.
  • If you evacuate your home, don’t leave your pet behind.
  • Some shelters may not accept animals. Check this page for a link to Honolulu County disaster shelters that accept pets. The ones designated with a paw print are pet-friendly. Call them every season to verify that they will accept your animals.
  • Make a back-up plan.
